The new "shopping cart" feature of PayPal allows you to order multiples of any one item without doubling-up on the shipping costs. If you order one of item "X" with a shipping charge of $5.95, and then decide you want a second one of the same item, the shopping cart will only charge you an additional .50 in shipping.
However, if you want to order one of item "X" and one of item "Z" the shopping cart will charge you separate shipping charges for each item. So, how do you get around this? Well, go ahead and order what you want and allow the shopping cart to add up the extra shipping. Then when you come to the final payment screen there is a special instructions field. In this field remind us that you are paying more than you should for shipping. When we ship your order, we will send a refund via PayPal for any shipping you have been overcharged. Yes, you have to trust us!
Why don't we fix this? Well for starters, PayPal software isn't sophisticated enough to have true shopping cart versatility. And, web sales account for so little of our total sales that we can't afford to use a standard credit card service. In order to keep costs down and make this service available, we have elected to use PayPal because, (1) they are a secure service, and (2) they only charge us a percentage of our actual sales and no monthly fee. And, they give you, the consumer, a $5.00 discount if this is your first time using the PayPal service.
If we didn't use PayPal we would only be able to accept checks and money orders. So, even though it's not perfect, it's a least a step in the right direction.
